ABAQUS FEA Simulation for Beam on Elastic Foundation

ABAQUS FEA Simulation for Beam on Elastic Foundation

(OP)
Hi all friends:
I am recently encounter a problem concerning defining beam on elastic foundation model in ABAQUS.
Could someone please give me some instructions to set up that model or give me some hints about that?
   Appreciate.
Regards.
Henry.

Use the interaction module to define the elastic foundation

To Corus:
   Thank you for your instruction.
However, when I use the 3D,deformable and wire to model the beam and employ the beam elements. It seems that the elastic foundation in the interaction module does not allow me to select the area where elastic foundation locates because elastic foundation in the interaction module only support surface selection but not the wire. Do you mean that I should use 3D, deformable and solid extrusion to model the part? Is there any method for me to use 3D,deformable and wire instead of 3D, deformable and solid extrusion?
    Thanks.

There is an example in ABAQUS document (I forgot where exactly) , check the input files

To geotechniqa:
   Thanks.
However, when I search the ABAQUS help file with keywords like "elastic foundation", no input file can be located.....
Anyway, thank you for your suggestions.

Is there somebody could tell me where the elastic foundation help file is located?
Thanks and appreciate.

Perhaps Corus was referring to the Abaqus/Standart "Contact" example in the getting started: Interactive Version of the user's manual.  It's the channel forming example.  I think i may be having a similar problem as I'm trying to model a two layer pavement structure.  You can see my thread here:  thread799-241642: Error Message: Node set has not been defined..  We should help each other.  Try to attach your .cae file.  Here's mine.

To Varved:
Thank you for your immediate help.
I have checked your .inp file and successfully run the job. However, after checking your definition, it might not be the definition for elastic foundation because i see you define surface to surface interaction and apply a load between two different materials. However, for the elastic foundation, no materials is needed for it.
I am still struggling for finding out the defition for elastic foundation. Anyway, thank you for your help. Just like what you said, we should help each other. Appreciate.

Is there anyone who could help me?

RE: ABAQUS FEA Simulation for Beam on Elastic Foundation

Is it the *FOUNDATION keyword that you are trying to use?  If so, look it up in the keyword manual - there are links to further help from there.  You may also find that you will have to add/modify some keywords manually - not everything in ABAQUS is available through CAE...
