What is equivalent to WP-1 motor rating?

What is equivalent to WP-1 motor rating?

What is equivalent to WP-1 motor rating?

(OP)
Hi:

Received a motor spec requiring WP-1 (weather-protected-1).

These are to go on Water Treatment Plant flocculators, and are for outside service.

Since WP-1 does not exist for small motors under 100hp, I need to find the closest common specification off-the-shelf for these 3 and 5 hp units.  WP-1 is an ODP motor, surprisingly.

Are we talking IP54, 55, or washdown duty here?

Thanks,
CSC UET Mixers, Inc.

RE: What is equivalent to WP-1 motor rating?

For that rating and outdoor duty I'd expect a TEFC motor protected to IP55, or whatever the equivalent NEMA code is if you're over that side of the pond. Would be nice if you could get an anti-condensation heater fitted but unlikely on so small a motor.

RE: What is equivalent to WP-1 motor rating?

It is something wrong,I think, using NEMA Weather-Protected Type I for outdoor location as this motor is an open motor protected only Drip-Proof [IP23]
May be "WP" is meaning "weatherproof" and this is an improvised version of TEFC to protect the live parts from ingress of water, rain, snow, airborne and other providing an additional protection and giving the outer surface a special coat of painting to protect against unfavorable weather conditions. It corresponds to IP55 [at least]. See:
