Meshing Gears with Different Pressure Angles

Meshing Gears with Different Pressure Angles

Meshing Gears with Different Pressure Angles

(OP)
Is it advisable to mesh two gears with the same DP but different pressure angles? Both gears are 8 DP. The driving gear has 22 teeth with a 20 degree pressure angle and the driven gear has 66 teeth with a 25 degree pressure angle. The range of operation is 75 to 350 rpm. Thanks for your help.

RE: Meshing Gears with Different Pressure Angles

Basically, do not do it unless both parts were cut with
either a 20 degree tool or both with a 25 degree tool.
I think your post indicates this is not the case. At that rpm, I would go with both having 20 degree pressure angles.

RE: Meshing Gears with Different Pressure Angles

Is this a quick fix just to get by?  If you have any centerline adjustment, you can do this an improvised repair, but you are going to wear out your gears quicker.  I've had situations like this where I had to make do with what was available, slap it together, grease it up, and go.
