Transfer Switching

(OP)
Hi,

I`m looking for any code on transfer switching. I have a distribution board which is powered by two different incoming sources through two 22 k V/ 415 V transformers. The board is powered by any one source at a time. Transfer is actually done manually by operating personnel. Now the process people are pushing us to automate the switching. There is no mechanical interlocking on either MV or LV breakers but they are provided with shunt tripping. There is no possibilty to parallel the two sources because the transformers have different vector group.

RE: Transfer Switching

When you ask for codes, you need to say where you are. As far as I know, the NEC does not require mechanical interlocking for automated control systems.

RE: Transfer Switching

Not sure what "size" in MVA you're looking for, but Zenith and ASCO both make automatic transfer switches which should do what you're asking.  The closed transition switches can be a bit finicky, but given your situation, you're looking for open transition.
