bill of material numbers in assembly

bill of material numbers in assembly

bill of material numbers in assembly

(OP)
hello - sorry for the "newbie" question but here goes - i have an assembly drawing that a customer has supplied - just the model of a hydraulic hose routing layout - i am able to generate a bill of material off of the tool bar for b/m which has numbers on the table from 1-92 - how can i identify where these numbers are in the model - i.e. item #1 is a hose fitting - how can i show where item no.1 is in the model??
nay help would be greatly apprecaited - thank you - using solidworks 2009

RE: bill of material numbers in assembly

Check the Help files for balloons.

A simple and quick way would be to use the AutoBalloon function. It will not attach balloons to the hidden or internal components though.

hello again & thank you for the reply - sorry about this question - i can use auto balloon in the model also - i thought it was used in the drawing part only?? - thanks again & sorry for the newbie questions

RE: bill of material numbers in assembly

Sorry, I was making too many assumptions about your use of terms. Balloons cannot be placed in an assy model, only in a drawing.

Do you have just the 2D drawing or the 3D model?

What do you mean by "the tool bar for b/m"?

i have only the model no 2-d drawing - the bill of material icon on the assembly tool bar - if you click on it in the model it will create a bill of material table within the model that you can print or save in excel -

RE: bill of material numbers in assembly

Probably the simplest way would be to create a 2D drawing and use the AutoBalloon function.

The 3D model-based BOM usually follows the Feature Manager assy order. To place Item numbers in the model you would need to use the Annotations function and manually place notes.

RE: bill of material numbers in assembly

Actually, balloons can be placed in an assembly model. I just did it. I never knew that . . .

The numbers are in the tree order.
I have no BOM Icon on my assembly tool bar, however, so I cannot create a bill.
What next?
