Tracing layout

(OP)
Dear forummembers,

I have a question with respect to tracing. Our contractor on site is guiding tracing on vertical pipelines, starting from the bottom, then he goes 4 meter up, goes down 4 meter and then continues on another line which goes up, then down again where there is a steamtrap. Looking at the tracing diameter I advised the contractor on site not the exceed 30 meters with one tracer and to reroute everything so he doesn't have to go up, but only downwards with the tracer so condensate can have a gravitational flow. He tells me however that going up these heights is no problem. My question to you, is this true and how high can you go in order to maintain a good tracing.

RE: Tracing layout

It is probably better not to go up and down on the same line, causing water pockets, however sometimes it cannot be avoided.  As per length, there is no set maximum, depending on tubing size, steam pressure, the 30 meters seems reasonable if a bit conservative.

thanks
