API Plan 33

API Plan 33

API Plan 33

(OP)
I have KSB pump at my site. Its using two John Crane type 309 and 309BT seals. Its quite an old pump. I came acorss the documents of the pump the other day and found out that KSB had recommended API Plan 33 for the outboard seal. At the moment we don't have any plan for the outboard seal installed. I tried to look up API Plan 33 on the internet but it was to no avail. Its seems its obsolete. Any idea if there was any API Plan 33, which API Plan has superseded it.

RE: API Plan 33

API Plan 33 is replaced by API Plan 54.

Thanks. API Plan 54 is about pressurized clean barrier fluid from an external source. What was the API Plan 33 specifically about.

RE: API Plan 33

As I remember it was exactly same as API Plan 54.
For double mechanical seal. Circulatioon from external source. If you can fin API 610 3rg or 4th edition, you may get the same.
I also am trying to find out old API standard, if I get it I will revert back with full details.

RE: API Plan 33

I have ever heard of an API plan 33.  Do you know if the seals are mounted back to back?   If so then you need to pressurize the seals using Plan 53A, B or C or Plan 54.  If the seals are mounted in Tandem then use Plan 52.

I do not think you will find API plan 33 in API 610 editions.  Contact your local John Crane representative for clarification
