Heat treating 8620

(OP)
Question on heat treating 8620. We have a 15.000 OD round with a 13.090 ID x 19-1/2 length.
Can this part swell out in the heat treating process on the OD of my part? And if so how much.
We are trying to leave material for grinding but aren't sure if this will increase in size.

RE: Heat treating 8620

Discuss with your heat treater the stock to be left after case hardening,he may help. If you remove more stock after case hardening, then the useful depth available will be reduced.

Also need to verify how the part is supported or fixtured during quenching. You may have to deal with out-of-roundness which will also have to be accounted for in finishing.
