Vortex Shedding

Vortex Shedding

(OP)
Does anyone have a good source to find an approximation of the forcing function due to vortex shedding?  I am looking to compare the frequency of a suspended pipe relative to the vortex shedding due to wind to ensure there is not an issue with resonance.  Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Vortex Shedding

I used Marks Hdbk, but this is covered in various texts. Von Karman was first to fully describe this, and some call them Karman vortices. He consulted on the problem of swinging suspension bridges with plate girders for stiffening. ASCE has a good bridge book in their library. The title is approx. Steel Bridge Construction.

RE: Vortex Shedding

My old "Structural Engineering Handbook" (1968) by Gaylord and Gaylord has a brief discussion of this in Chapter 26 on chimney design.
