(OP)
Does anyone out there know how to change units from imperial to metric (globally).
I know how to change  document settings, but this irritates me every time i start a new part.
(I was not present when the software was installed)

Thanks in advance

RE: Global Settings

Change it in the document settings of your part template.

INV ships with templates for both imperial and metric (at least mine did, version 11).

RE: Global Settings

I have the same problem with Inv. 2009.  Tried setting up the templates to use my settings, but the changes don't seem to soak into Inventor's tiny brain.

RE: Global Settings

Open your template (.ipt) file (with all other files closed).. Go to tools..document settings..units tab and change to mm. Then save..
then start a new part using that template and in your first sketch all dimensions should now be in millimeters. If they aren't your not doing something right..

RE: Global Settings

Man! tht unit change was so easy in PRO/E !! ...

RE: Global Settings

It's easy in Inventor also...
I've used both and nothing about Pro/E is easier/better...
Pro/E is a dying program unless someone makes some huge changes over there. SW and INV are just kicking their butts across the board.

RE: Global Settings

It is trivially easy.  Simply delete your Standard.ipt and replace it with your Standard(mm).ipt named as Standard.ipt in the Templates folder.

Software does not have a brain.  The brain sits between the chair and the keyboard.

Template or document settings or type in units. Could not possibly be any simpler.  Doesn't matter what program. It couldn't be any easier in any other program.
