Best way to go about converting SW assembly to NX/Teamcenter
Best way to go about converting SW assembly to NX/Teamcenter
(OP)
We've been rolling out NX/Teamcenter since the beginning of the year. We're working on a new product, so much of the new components we've been starting from scratch in NX. However we do have a large assembly that was completed in SolidWorks that is part of the product. Just trying to figure out what is the best way to go about bringing it into NX/Teamcenter.
It has appoximately 1000 parts, 159 unique parts, 26 unique sub-assemblies, left/right hand parts & sub-assemblies, the works.
My guess is this is going to be complicated/messy no matter which angle I approach it. We did test runs with other parts, exporting them from SW as IGES and importing them into NX. We had better luck with parasolid files. Still, the models are just "dummy" geometry, and it was outside of Teamcenter. I wouldn't know where to start getting huge assemblies into teamcenter.
So far it looks like the most accurate, less error prone method would be to start from scratch, but just wondering if there's someone out there with more experience to let me know if there's a way of getting this done in a couple weeks, not months. We could give up having the parametric geometry for now, as long as we could go back and add this later.

RE: Best way to go about converting SW assembly to NX/Teamcenter
I would open them in NX Native first and save the data before importing the assembly into Teamcenter. Provided that you have the required permissions within Teamcenter it should be possible to create the items as you go along. The only time you tend to get stuck is when there is a pre-existing copy of an identical named item already in the Teamcenter database. My guess is do the whole assembly in one go to avoid such hitches.
