NX6: How to export high resolution image of screen display?

NX6: How to export high resolution image of screen display?

NX6: How to export high resolution image of screen display?

(OP)
The standard way to get an image from NX seems to be:

File > Export > {JPEG, TIFF, PNG, BMP, etc}

I have two questions:

1. Is there any way to control the resolution of the image which is created?  It seems that the default behavior is to literally take a screen grab - so the resulting image will have however many pixels were on your computer display.  It would be great to be able to take screendumps at higher resolution, for creation of presentation-worthy images.  Note that I am NOT talking about images from any of the rendering tools.  For instance, this is relevant to output of simulation post-process images.

2. Is it possible to output a PDF with the same graphical information that appears when you do a File > Export > {JPEG, TIFF, PNG, BMP, etc}? This would be very nice, since you CAN change the size and resolution of the PDF output.  For example, it seems that if you try to export a PDF from within NX Advanced Simulation, you end up with a black and white mesh, regardless of what you set the Color options to be in the Export > PDF dialogue box.  None of the plotted results (fringe plots, marker or contour plots, etc) show up.  This would be nice functionality to have, if it's not already there somehow.  If it exists, can someone explain how to use it?

Thanks.

RE: NX6: How to export high resolution image of screen display?

Starting in NX 5.0 we added a PDF option under...

File -> Export -> PDF...

...allowing you to either capture the 'Current Display', or any drawing sheets in the part file, with control over the Scale and/or Size of the output.  Perhaps this will meet your needs.

Thanks John, but the File > Export > PDF doesn't actually seem to correctly capture the 'Current Display'.  As I mentioned, when you do this while viewing results (postprocessing) in NX6 Advanced Simulation, the PDF you get has only a black and white mesh, while the 'Current Display' is a colorful depiction of stresses or displacements etc on the part.

NX does not support exporting Shaded views to a PDF.  The file consists of curves only.

If you just want a picture of you part just get it in a view you want and hold alt key and hit print screen then past into a word doc or a blank picture.

RE: NX6: How to export high resolution image of screen display?

If you put a Shaded view on to a drawing you can print the drawing to PDF.

If you create a high quality shaded image then the settings therein allow you to raise the resolution. You need extra licenses to run the advanced shading options but even the basic version has user defined resolution.

If you want to be able to capture anything and everything in that vein then get a hold of an Adobe Acrobat licence or one of the cheaper equivalents such as PDF Creator. They create an extra print queue on you system so that anything which you could print from NX, your current shaded screen included, will be able to be printed to a PDF file.

RE: NX6: How to export high resolution image of screen display?

Hi potrero, you have one more choice, You can enter in drawing module, and put a shaded view, then plot it to JPEG, in advanced plot you can change the resolution.

Be careful, in settings -> Drawing sheet, check plot raster images in drawing and uncheck Plot shaded geometry as wireframe.

I don't know if the image is output with a good quality, please tell me if this works for you.

Frank.
