Modeling Gasket in Abaqus

Modeling Gasket in Abaqus

Modeling Gasket in Abaqus

(OP)
I am starting with a quadratically meshed, axisymmetric model of an overclosed seal.  I remove the overclosure (and thus energize) the seal with the "interference fit" option in the interaction module.  Note that this analysis is performed in Abaqus Standard as we do not have Explicit.  After the first analysis (with no fluid) is performed, I add in the card *PRESSURE PENETRATION (suitably placed) in the input file generated at the final stage of the analysis (which I before had left as a dummy step).

My question is this, does the approach seem correct?

RE: Modeling Gasket in Abaqus

GNicholson,

Is the seal self-energised (requiring no initial sealing stress to seat the seal)? What is the material of the seal? The title of your post is about a gasekt. Therefore I am a little confused.

Thanks,

Gurmeet
