When to use 305mm HB kerb instead of a 255mm HB kerb
When to use 305mm HB kerb instead of a 255mm HB kerb
(OP)
Hi, first post so go easy :).
I have started a new position with a roads consultancy in NI and am currently reviewing the standard details amongst other things for a proposed 40mph link road project.
I noticed that the in house standard details showed a 305mm x 150mm HB road kerb to be used but i always used a 255mm x 125mm HB in my previous schemes with other companies.
I have asked around the office and no-one seems to know why there is the difference. I have also checked the relevant BSs but they do not give clarity either. I do not want to go back to the client and ask a possibly daft question nor do i want to over specify something - can anyone here offer some guidance?

However, I have seen a document which states that the larger section is preferred in heavily trafficked areas, eg urban streets, or where there is kerbside parking by heavy vehicles.
