Water Storage Reservoir

Water Storage Reservoir

Water Storage Reservoir

(OP)
I am a young engineer with a question...

We have a non-pressurized water storage reservoir for a building that must hold 3 days capacity. City pressure will fill the tank, but the city pressure is limited(it's in former Soviet country). IPC requires a backflow device, but does code specify where to put the backflow in relation to the reservoir? I would like to use city pressure to go through the backflow and avoiding having to pump through that loss.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

RE: Water Storage Reservoir

Which side requires the backflow device? Inlet or outlet?

RE: Water Storage Reservoir

So, put a backflow preventer on the line that fills the reservoir.  Put another on the line connecting city water to your in-building piping.  The pump draws from the tank, and pumps the system, backflow from pump to city pipes is prevented by the 2nd preventer.

Am I missing something?
