Try Tools> Options> System Options> Colours and then select "Use document scene background" radio button.

First thing I'd do is check my video card drivers.  I seem to remember a similar problem with my initial upgrade, and I had to delete the SW folder from my registry in order to clear it up.

RE: Scenes not showing in SW2009

It works for me OK, although I can't yet get it not to present me with a shiny floor and reflections avery time I open a file!  I use a gradient background and it was OK until SP2.1 or else I didn't notice it! Realview on or off makes no difference to the way the scene works. However, as these scenes are related to PhotoWorks, is that installed on your machine and is it enabled under Tools> Add-ins. Although, I would have thought it must be or else you probably wouldn't have the "Apply scene" dropdown, or it would be empty!
