Magnetic wedges
Magnetic wedges
(OP)
In my machine the stator windings have epoxy resin wedges at the mouth of the slots in order to keep the windings firmly in place. My slot openings are rather large in order to facililate the winding process of the stator (hand wound stator) . I undesrtand that by replacing the epoxy resin wedges with magnetic wedges wil improve the efficiency of the motor. Does anybody have experience with use of magnetic wedges? Any advise on use of magnetic wedges, their advantages and deadvantages will be greatefuly appreciated.

RE: Magnetic wedges
It is hard for me to understand what benefit there is to magnetic wedges. The main flux flows radially from rotor to stator. Providing a low-reluctance parallel path tangentially around a stator coil would only increase leakage reactance which I would think would decrease efficiency.
Once again, I have no practical experience with magnetic wedges... I'm just trying to understand how they could be used to improve efficiency
