RUST PREVENTION
RUST PREVENTION
(OP)
We are looking to ship some machined soft steel parts and machined cast iror and ductile iron parts from Europe to India. Can any one recommend a suitable rust preventive method (type of RPO, RPO application method, VCI or non VCI etc.,)
We had tried few methods which we used for shipping from Europe to China. (Quaker Ferrocote 5802 by spraying and VCI cover was used) But for India destination these methods are not successful. (apparently due to hot and humid climate)
Any help in this area is welcome.
Thanks

RE: RUST PREVENTION
The long term shipment from Europe to India is not ideal transport for any carbon steel material, particularly for machined surfaces. The large temperature variations allows for salty moist air ingrease into the parts packaging and thus the condensation of that moisture on exposed parts. There are a few strong coatings available (check on the internet and particularly the Shell products), but very difficult to remove the protective coating if needed so.
Perhaps nitrogen pressurized containers would help, keeping the salty atmosphere outside. Just remember that there is no air tight maritime container which is able to keep the moisture out when the temperature drops overnight.
Hope this helps,

You could also look at the old standby Cosmoline. It is quite good if the the parts are no too intricate.
I see quite a lot of metalized Pet film being used for shipping.

There was a shop that sent skids to the Mideast as well as Asia and they used some of the Denso products.

KENAT,
Have you reminded yourself of FAQ731-376: Eng-Tips.com Forum Policies recently, or taken a look at posting policies: http://eng-tips.com/market.cfm?
