RE: welding

welding234;
There is no SA 694. There is ASTM A 694. Is this procedure qualified with impact testing?

RE: welding

(OP)
yes

RE: welding

What design Code applies? If per B31.3, A-694 is unlisted. Each base mmaterial combination must be independently qualified.

RE: welding

I stand corrected re ASME IX, wherein:
SA-336 Gr 6 is P-1 Group 1
A694 F65 is S-1 Group 2
API 5LX-65 is S-1 Group 2

Impact test qualificatiomn on P-1 Group 1 to to P-1 Group 2 or S-1 Group 2 qualifies P-1 Group 1 to S-1 Group 2 and S-1 Group 2 to S-1 Group 2. Both HAZ's must be tested and meet the Design Code requirements.

that means i need you estabhesh 2 procedure

RE: welding

No.

RE: welding

as per your reply on 16/03
it supposed to be ,,,,orelse can give detail how it will be combined as one procedure as per SEC IX

RE: welding

stanweld,
I am a little confused.
QW 403.5 is a supplementary essential variable therefore it is applicable in this instance.
QW 403.5 Welding Procedure Specifications shall be qualified using one of the following :
(b)for ferrous materials, a base material listed in the same P-Number Group-Number in Table QW/QB 422 as the base metal to be used in production welding.

Based on that statement I would have thought that the welding of S1-Gr2 to S1-Gr2 and P1-Gr 1 to S1-Gr2 would have required two separate procedures. ?
Also, will impacts be at the same temperature for all three materials or do you just test to the lowest of the three ?
Regards,
BB

i too agree with ball bearing
what about stanweld.

RE: welding

Impact test qualification on one coupon composed of a P-1 Group 1 to a P-1 Group 2 or S-1 Group 2 materail and impact testing the weld metal, and the HAZ of both the P-1 Group 1 and the P-1 Group 2 or S-1 Group 2 material and meeting the impact toughness requirements of the original design Code qualifies to weld the joints defined in the original question.
