Type of Concrete and dept of pad
Type of Concrete and dept of pad
(OP)
I am trying to design a simple structure with one vertical pole about 15' high and attached @ a 45degree another 4' member, weighing 600#. What forumlas should I use to calculate: the type of concrete and the dimensions of the support pad? Any help be great!

SumVertical Forces=0
SumHorizontal Forces = 0

The design of this would take into account the following:
1. Local wind and seismic forces.
2. Soil conditions
3. Frost considerations
4. Area and configuration of the scanning panels (for wind)
5. Other supplemental or possible loads in the future.
With the above, you'd have to do a wind/seismic analysis of the pole and size the footing/pier that supports it for the applied loads.
Also of concern is the connection of the pole to the base. A type of moment connection is required here.
