Applicable design pressure in ASME Section Div.1

Applicable design pressure in ASME Section Div.1

Applicable design pressure in ASME Section Div.1

(OP)
When design pressure is over 3000 psi,The ASME SEC.VIII DIV.1 is applicable for this equipment?
Is there any way to apply the ASME Sec. VIII div.1 for pressure vessel over 3000 psi design pressure by stamping U1?

RE: Applicable design pressure in ASME Section Div.1

the other posts do not condem the calculation part, but what about the stamping part?
You can design and stamp >3KSI vessel but always with  your inspectors approval.- I tried myself and I had to abandone the proect: the inspector refused to help.

RE: Applicable design pressure in ASME Section Div.1

bgchae,
Read carefully the Clause U-1(d), which tells you that at design pressures exceeding 3000 psi, you should use other more appropriate design methods than those covered in the Div 1. However, it does not prohibit the use of Div 1 rules. It gives you a hint that the cost of fabrication to Div 1 will make the equipment excessively expensive. If the money is not object, you can defy the mentioned Clause and design the vessel per Div 1 and stamp it U. Money may also soften a stubborn AI...
Good luck,
gr2vessels

RE: Applicable design pressure in ASME Section Div.1

gr2 vessel,  yeah the only reason we want to stamp U1 is because we do not have the U2,
as per money to soften the process... i wouldn't go there
