Flat covers during heaters repair

Flat covers during heaters repair

Flat covers during heaters repair

(OP)
We will remove the high pressure water-steam heaters No.5 and 6 from a 150 MW coal fired utility, the heaters will be send to a shop for 6 months, where the shell will be inspected, and the internal tubes, plates and baffles will be replaced.

Meanwhile, we will use the heaters bypass lines to keep the unit in service, so we will install flat covers on the heaters connecting pipes to prevent for cut-valve's leakages.

The design pressure of heater is 3,000 psi, the hydro-test pressure is 4,500 psi, and the connecting pipes are SA-106 Gr.C, 10" diameter SCH 160.

We need to write some terms in the service order for design, supply and installation of the flat covers. We are requesting to perform these tasks according to ASME B&PV Section VIII Div. 1, using flat covers types UG-34 sketch (h), UW-13.2 sketch (c), and with a minimum thickness according to UG-34, using SA-36 carbon steel plate and a design pressure of 3,000 psi and design temperature of 500°F.

Is it right to use the B&PV Section VIII Div.1 instead of other ASME codes? (we are located in Colombia, so the ASME code is not mandatory). Is there anything else we need to consider in the revice order terms?

Thanks for your help.
