Garrett Turbo-E Generator Application

Garrett Turbo-E Generator Application

Garrett Turbo-E Generator Application

(OP)
Would like to implement installation of a Garrett turbo electric generator. I only want to utilize generator function to assist alternator not interested in compressing intake.
Any company make a turbine electric generator without compressor? Want to use the turbo exhaust generator to run additional components.
Electric fan
electric water pump
Plan to use valve in exhaust to control turbine speed.
Need help with the electronics, controling amps, charging battery, interfacing with alternator, ECU interface etc...
any suggestions?
Other than TIGERS, CAT, John Deere, etc... projects any individual applications?

RE: Garrett Turbo-E Generator Application

For a prototype, I'd guess you could just choke the compressor inlet of a regular turbo, e.g. by using a slightly fat shaft coupling to drive the gearbox that drives your alternator.  You could use the surviving flow to pull or push cooling air through the alternator.

Unless you've got a drive cycle that keeps the (piston?) engine running hard most of the time, I'm not sure you'll see a net gain to offset the complexity of what you propose to do.

The coolant pump is less of a problem, but the electric cooling fan is needed most when the turbo is least likely to have enough power available to drive it.
