Since no response from other Forum, May be this is more appropriate place!

Dear All Hello/Good Evening,

Kindly oblige through guidance on the %age sampling for Inspection/Testing for captioned subject Pipeline of Chinese or Korean Origin

Also guide with preferable technique to be employed i.e.
1)Ultrasonic
2)Radiography
3)Electromagnetic(Eddy Current
5)Any other tests needed for this "longitudinal" Seam Welded Pipe Type.

Pipeline involved is around 6100 Rft for a refinery piping Project.

Early Help with applicable Code/Standard?good Engineering Practice reference,if any will be highly appreciated.

Best Regards

RE: ASTM A53 GR B Sch-40 8" Dia ERW Pipeline Testing& Inspection Criteria

from China?

i would ask for chemical and physical tests from each heat of pipe

100% radigraphy of each random length

RE: ASTM A53 GR B Sch-40 8" Dia ERW Pipeline Testing& Inspection Criteria

First.... I suggest that you post this question on the "Piping and Fluid Mechanics forum"....you will get a much better grade of responses.

Second....Who is doing the mechanical engineering for the project and which international standards are being followed? It is these standards that will determine the degree of NDE for each type of pipe.

Third.... Where are your piping line specifications ? Where are your design drawings ? Are you going to purchase 6100 ft of the same type of pipe and then try to use it in the project ?

What kind of "refinery project" is this...!!??

Having been involved in the manufacture and inspection of ERW pipe, I would advise UT and Magnetic Flux Leakage testing to confirm seam soundness and hydrotesting to confirm pipe soundness. Noting some of the recent failures of steel materials attributable to nonmetallic inclusion counts common in 1960's and 1970's steel manufacturing, I would also advise wet flourescent magnetic particle testing of the weld seam; inclusions can be squeezed to the surface creating crack-like flaws.

RE: ASTM A53 GR B Sch-40 8" Dia ERW Pipeline Testing& Inspection Criteria

Before going too far on inspection, what are the service conditions; i.e., temperature, pressure and fluid?

RE: ASTM A53 GR B Sch-40 8" Dia ERW Pipeline Testing& Inspection Criteria

(OP)
Probably
1)Refinery Firewater
1)At or around near ambient temperature
(Under shade max.53 Celcius)
2)Pressure at or around 12.0 Barg(usual max.)

With that small quantity of pipe, I doubt you will be able to get very picky.  I would imagine that you'll have to choose from what's on the shelf, so you will probably just have an opportunity to select from whatever standard mill tested pipe happens to be in stock, unless you get very lucky.

If you're concerned about what is available, go inspect it at the pipe yard and perhaps later plan on doing a longer duration hydro.

RE: ASTM A53 GR B Sch-40 8" Dia ERW Pipeline Testing& Inspection Criteria

A hydrotest of the underground installation in accordance with NFPA 24 is all that I would recommend.

RE: ASTM A53 GR B Sch-40 8" Dia ERW Pipeline Testing& Inspection Criteria

the AS-53E A OR B PIPE IS ALREADY CERTIFIED FOR UT OR EC 100% that shoud satisfy your requirement.
IN API IS NOT A REQUIREMENT.
