file trading problems

(OP)
Hello everybody,

My colleagues and I are experiencing difficulties trading V5 .CATPART files. We work in separate computer labs. They can open my files, but I can't open their files. Does anybody have any suggestions.

So far, I can go to the other lab, which is a little inconvenient. Also, as I have seen in other compatibility threads, I can ask them to trade .model files instead. I would prefer not having to play with conversions...sometimes details fall through the cracks.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Govyn

RE: file trading problems

Sounds like their installation is of a higher release then yours.

Azrael you are correct, my colleagues use release 17 and I use release 16.

Is there a way to save the files so they are backwards compatible?

RE: file trading problems

If you want to be able to work on each others files (forth and back) with features the short answer is no, same level needed.

Thanks. I found out you can convert files to an earlier release using the downwanrd compatibility utility, but the school's firewall disables it's features. Looks like I'm going to have to change computer labs.

Thanks again for your help.

RE: file trading problems

yes you can use that feature, but the only thing you will achieve is that you can open it with an earlier release of catia but it will be a dumb solid, no features.
