transfer line to an elevated tank
transfer line to an elevated tank
(OP)
A two phase (gas / oil/water) separator is discharging a mixture of oil and water of 68% WC through 40 metres of 10"diam pipe to a tank that is 5.5 mts above the separator level.
Liquid (oil/water) 20°C/4,5 kg/cm2
I ´ve calculated a 68 kPa (0.69 kg/cm2) total pressure drop for this line, 1.73 kg/cm2 / 100 m.
The recommended pressure drop is < 0.45 (kg/cm2 / 100 m)
the velocity is 1.3 m/s (1.2 - 2 m/s recommended)
I´ve tried larger pipe diameters with the following results
14" - 66 kPa
20" - 65 kPa
The question is ¿how can i support the design of this pipe when the pressure drop is still exceding the permissible limits for 20" diameter?

RE: transfer line to an elevated tank
I guess this might need to be corrected in the design. So, you need to advice the autority either to raise the separator level or lower the level of the tank to meet the requirement.
