EcoBrass castings - any experience?

EcoBrass castings - any experience?

EcoBrass castings - any experience?

(OP)
A foundry sent me an email stating they would like to change the metal they will be pouring for one of our parts from a leaded brass, C83600, to "EcoBrass", C87850.  We aren't making potable water system parts, so the low lead content isn't a big seller for us, but the higher strength and corrosion resistance of the new alloy is interesting.  The part is a sand casting, and we are fairly sensitive to flaws (voids/porosity).  Has anyone had experience with the EcoBrass in sand castings and care to comment?

The distributor for the Eco-Brass ingots has this website, for those who are interested.

RE: EcoBrass castings - any experience?

C87850 is an established alloy that is used for casting valve and  meter bodies.  The references say that it has good fluidity and low gassing.  It is just Cu, Zn, Si (3%).
If the strength would help you then give it a try.
