OCR-Part Text

OCR-Part Text

(OP)
Hi,
Is there a way to recognize SW part text? OCR recognizes drawing text, but can't seem to recognize part text. I'm try to do this for our nameplates on our products. The nameplates are created in the parts, and the drawing made from that. The .prt has a text functionality and assume you could do OCR when a PDF is made.

Thanks,

RE: OCR-Part Text

Perhaps your question is unclear.  Are you saying that when you PDF a drawing, any notes etc are selectable as text but when you extrude text that geometry is not selectable as text?

Certain PDF stuff is not OCR.  It's actually text, exported as such during PDF creation.  True OCR wouldn't know the difference between extruded text and note text, but exported-to-PDF text vs extrude geometry text is different.

Exactly what I'm asking. I figured it would pickup the extruded text because I used the 3D text function in Solidworks. It sounds like I'm S.O.L., huh?

RE: OCR-Part Text

yeah, i think so. Even in AI, once you convert text to outlines, its no longer recognized as text. What if you create a custom property in your part wbere you insert the same text you used in the sketch text. Then display this custom prop in your drawing sheet format and use the same font and size you used from the SW text library. I wouldn't know how to link the sketch text in the part to the custom prop, so you'll have to enter it twice.
