thanks in advance

RE: new to surface modeling

You don't mention what the sculpture is of, but I assume it is of very organic surfaces. It will be very difficult to dimension as a complete surface model.

In what material will the final sculpture be made?

Is the real world sculpture to be created by hand, rapid prototyping, pantographic mill, ???

Creating sections to dimension 'might' help, but could entail too many views.

RE: new to surface modeling

Next time try to get a parasolid file. Although the IGS file came in cleanly it was scaled 1:50.8

How many pieces are required?
Are you making this yourself, subbing out, or just consulting?
If yourself, what equipment do you have to cut and manipulate 8mm SS?

RE: new to surface modeling

I think if you rename the standard Front view as the Top, you can then bring the model into a drawing.  Looks like the edge with the sharp edge would be the bottom to me.  You should be able to pull dims from Point to Point.  If you want, you could create a sketch line at the bottom of the part and dim to that.  I think this is going to be hard to pull any useful dims from this since there are no flat surfaces except the bottom.  I would use coordinate dims to plot the tangents of the various radii.

the model is actual size as in aprox 12 metres tall and with a wall thickness of aprox 400mm  the client wants it skined with 8mm ss plate and is to be manufactured in china?? what they require is me to make drg's with enought info from that igis file  (flat patterns, dims etc)for them to sub it to prob the cheapest bidder. as i said i use solidworks on a daily basis for sheet metal work and this surface modeling is very new to me.

RE: new to surface modeling

Creating a skin is easy. Simply Ctrl select whichever surfaces you want combined as one piece/panel, then use the Offset Surface tool (surfaces toolbar) and use a zero offset. Select the newly created surface and use the Thicken tool (features toolbar) to thicken to 8mm.

What material is the base sculpture?
Is it being manufactured in China also? Same place?
