Definition of panel point on a bar joist

I am designing a fire sprinkler system in a building that requires all pipe hangers to be located within 6" of a panel point on the top chord of bar joists.  I understand that the "A" formed at the top is a panel point, but is the location of the vertical member at the top also considered a panel point?  See link for sketch.  Thank you in advance for replies.

Yes!

Yes.

Thank you both for your quick replies.  Is there some documentation in a publication that I can reference to plead my case to the general contractor / structural engineer, who is challenging this?

RE: Definition of panel point on a bar joist

Send them a link to this thread. :)

I am a little surprised the building's structural engineer doesn't agree that the referenced point is a panel point.

The attached photocopy from the Vulcraft (joist supplier) catalog, while not explicity stating the definition of a panel paoint, makes clear (when read in context) that Vulcraft considers these panel points.

RE: Definition of panel point on a bar joist

Get the joist supplier/fabricator involved if the structural engineer or GC is still not in agreement with this.
