Jetty Construction

Jetty Construction

I'm in the process of inital design of a Retaining wall at the side of the lake. Boats will be able to dock in this area hence the need for a clean vertical face. At approximately 2.6m below water is bedrock. I've thought about a sheet piled wall but for a less costly option i'm thinking of using Manhole rings filled with concrete. The rock would be drilled and dowel bars grouted in place. The Manhole rings could then be placed, Cages of reinforcement dropped in and concrete poured using a tremie. The top of the manholes could be tied back to a reinforced concrete ground slab. The construction is on an island and a special bardge would have to be commissioned to transport a piling rig. Have any member any thoughts/coments on this construction

RE: Jetty Construction

I like the idea. Underlying bedrock would need to be pretty horizontal to be effective, that is the only drawback as I see it. Gravel fill will give you the weight you need in lieu of the concrete unless you are relying on tying the various rings together. You've really then got a small dimension cellular cofferdam. No need for doweling or tying the top back either as each cell would act on it's own weight.Unless there is something I'm missing, with your proposal the area would have to be dewatered before excavation to formation level, costly. Thought about using an auger rig to drill holes for steel soldier piles, then precast concrete planks or "logs"? You could do that all in the wet and it's pretty low maintenance. Good Luck.
