ESD floor and water

ESD floor and water

ESD floor and water

(OP)
I'm on a team that is evaluating some renovations to some electronic labs we have to be converted for life science labs. All of the areas have a common esd floor (vinyl tiles). Ive noticed on the main doors going into the area big warning signs not to bring in drinks, conductive floor.

One of the requirements is to bring in portable 30 gal safety showers for the labs since it would be to costly to plumb in showers and floor drains.

Lets say one of these showers is used or accidentally turned on. Will all the water on the floor have an effect on the esd floor?

RE: ESD floor and water

I'm thinking that the signage was simply for convenience and ignorance.  It probably was some misguided concern about electrocution, rather than ESD, hence the "conductive" floor statement, not realizing that ESD equipment is specifically protected with resistors to ensure that no one gets electrocuted through the ESD connections.

Most ESD floors still need to be moppable, so they can handle getting wet.  Bringing in drinks/food, regardless of ESD requirements is probably bad for electronics, and life science labs, so that part of the signage should probably still remain.
