Chiller pumps

Chiller pumps

(OP)
I am a mechanical HVAC engineer new in the field and i have been trying to understand the concept of primary and secondary pumping in chilled water systems including the piping. Can someone please give me a coincise description of the sequence of operation? Thanks

RE: Chiller pumps

It's all in the hydraulics.  ASHRAE has a hydronics course that explains it pretty well.  The primary pumps just push water thru the chillers, into a manifold that would ultimately dump back to the primary pump suctions, if the secondary pumps didn't suck it out first.  Do a websearch on primary-secondary, you'll find many good articles.

RE: Chiller pumps

If you can get your hands on Bell & Gossett's Engineering Design Manual they offer excellent overviews of primary/secondary design. May even can find them online.

RE: Chiller pumps

bell and gossett has some good training videos online from their little red school house also, be a good course to go to as well

Take the "V" out of HVAC and you are left with a HAC(k) job.
