Flame Arrester - What Size Required?

Flame Arrester - What Size Required?

Flame Arrester - What Size Required?

(OP)
I'm hoping somebody can be of help with a flame arrester query I have.  Basically I need to find a suitable flame arrester which will allow a unit to meet Atex regulations for group IIB2.

Effectively what I need is an arrester element that is as small as possible in length and of diameter no greater than approximately 30mm which will be built into a tool.  The volume of the container for which this will be acting as a flameproofer is approximately 1400cc.

I have spent a significant amount of time researching this and looking for options already out there but one problem we are having is deciding upon the correct depth of arrester element to use.  There are various crimped ribbon elements available of suitable diameter however the recommended depth varies greatly depending upon who you contact.  So, what I would really like to know is if anyone knows of any method that can be used to calculate the depth required from a crimped ribbon arrester element?  or alternatively if there is any more general information that can be applied to other types of arresters.

I wouldn't think there will be anything too straightforward but any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers.

RE: Flame Arrester - What Size Required?

In what circumstances can a flame arrestor make a unit meet an ATEX requirement (just curious)?

Best regards

Morten
