Minimum Data in Engineering Drawing
Minimum Data in Engineering Drawing
(OP)
hi all
i have a question about Engineering Drawing.
-what are the minimum Datas that shall be in Engineering Drawing of Drums or Pressure vessels?
is nozzle orientation or detail of some internal equipment such as tray support or baffle is necessary?
thankx all

RE: Minimum Data in Engineering Drawing
If it's the data sheet, it will contain everything that's necessary to issue the fabrication drawings, including nozzle orientations and internals, to the exception of thicknesses and other data coming from the calculation, though some informative or minimum values may be supplied.
If it's the fabrication drawing (you may call it the design drawing), it will contain everything from the design data to the details of materials, position, type and dimensions of welds, etc. Only the details of some fabrication processes (e.g. forming of heads) and of welding consumables and procedures are normally contained in other documents.

RE: Minimum Data in Engineering Drawing
Let's say that 20 years from now, that baffle plate has eroded away. Now you need to fabricate another one, in kind. If you dont have the drawings, how do you know what thickness or material was used the first time so you can go one better the next time.
Or, let's say you're having issues with your operating conditions. Your process engineer is going to want to see how the process inside that vessel works. Without those details, he will not know without going inside.
RE: Minimum Data in Engineering Drawing
This allows fabricators to bid for and price the vessel and produce their own design and drawings
Contains:
Vessel design code and list of applicable project specifications and standard drawing details
Vessel size (diameter / height or length)
Vessel design and operating conditions
Vessel shell and end minimum required thickness
Any specific minimum nozzle loads (may also be in a specific project or client specification)
Vessel materials of construction
List of Nozzles showing required sizes, rating, facing
Vessel special requirements e.g. cyclic design, wind / seismic / blast loadings, PWHT, internal and / or external coating, etc
Details of any required internals – these may be on a separate INTERNALS DRAWING / DATASHEET. Note internals are normally supplied by another party.
Sketch (not necessarily to scale these days) showing required nozzle locations (some may be governed by vessel internals) and any specific nozzle outstands, internals locations and vessel support details (brackets, saddle or skirt)
Sketch showing required nozzle orientations if known – some may be governed by vessel internals
FABRICATION DRAWING
This allows the vessel to be manufactured / fabricated:
All of the above
Full vessel dimensions and details to scale – may require several drawings depending on the complexity of the vessel
Reference to weld procedures
Location of all shell and dished end main weld seams – longitudinal and circumferential
Etc
