Volute in Catia V5 ?!?!?!?!
Volute in Catia V5 ?!?!?!?!
(OP)
Can some one please tell me if there is an easy way to create a vulute (a snail shell kind of shape where the center is removed) in catia v5, aside from building each and every section? currently i have to build a section every 10 degrees and skin it, this is a very long process.
Please, any time saver would be appreciated.

As far as I know, its the only way....maybe you can do some scripts to do the job faster...an idea is to import the points of the sections (or the whole profile) by script.

I found a free software called SurfX3D which can export wrl, dxf or pov files. I just inserted the wrl file in a product and play a little bit with sectioning tool...you can export sections from this product and see if this will help you...or if you have a converter....
Peter is right, if you want to be accurate I believe its better to do it directly in CATIA.
Maybe (its my hope) kapitan will give us another amazing tutorial about surfaces (if he has time, of course), showing us how to do it.

the products i am working on are new and "inovative" (aka: a pain in the ass for designers" and it just appears there is nothing out there thats been developed yet {pain filled sigh} and i am not good enough with this software yet to develop scripts. i hate to admit it but i am still a beginner when it comes to catia. it is better than any of the other software i have ever used (though a library feature would be nice :P) and i think i am doing pretty damned good for only beingon it a year but scripts are beyond me as of yet :( sorry guys. but if any one can point me to a beginners scirpting tutorial, i would like to learn :)
thanks again and as before, if you think you could help me in any way further..i will be back to check often :) i think ifinally found a new home

Snail Shell surface
Well, thanks for the suggestion, ferdo - and I've certainly got plenty of time - but I don't have access to a V5 terminal anymore, as unfortunateIy I'm now in my late 60s - and retired. So, I'm sorry, I'd like to contribute something reasonably constructive to the thread, but nowadays I'm more of an occasional observer on this Catia forum, although this shell surface done in 2006 may be better than nothing - just about... it was done as a single surface; the spiral law was parabolic, and the complete shell constructed without using script, Excel macro or any other external software.

Excellent as usual, I still have a problem: where to put the star, here or at the picture's link (joking of course, I just noticed that thread is closed).

A fog law containing x=log(t*9+1)*90mm where x is length and t is real will replicate the logarithm curve quite nicely.
Spatial thinking indeed. Still trying to wrap my mind around it.
