How do I model a lightweight chain link fence?

How do I model a lightweight chain link fence?

How do I model a lightweight chain link fence?

(OP)
I need to surround an area with a chain link fence - or a reasonable facsimile of one - for a Photorender job.  I imagine a thin protrusion with a pattern of cutouts, but that would be a pretty heavy part for video regen and render time...  Any ideas for a "quick and dirty"?

Thank you,
Oso Ingeniero.

Use patterns, but stay away from SOLIDs. Use surfaces to represent the chain link, and maybe use Transform, rather than Pattern. Surface regen faster than solids.
