Problems with curve projection
Problems with curve projection
(OP)
Just wondering if anybody could help me.
I am trying to project a line onto an extruded surface.
To project the curve, I am using CURVE - PROJECT CURVE, then sketch onto face.
I pick the curve and then pick the surface. In my case, the surface I am using is a cylinder, and there are two options (either side of the cylinder) however when I click OK, the curve that is generated is on the wrong side of my cylinder.
Is there a way of forcing it to use the side I require?
The pictures hopefully show my problem.
Many Thanks

RE: Problems with curve projection
Also, have you tried the Wrap function.
RE: Problems with curve projection
Here we go
Never used the Wrap function before. The curve is projected but it also trims the surface.
RE: Problems with curve projection
another workaround: move the plane you sketch on, to the other side or create a plane parallel to the current plane then create a sketch on the new plane, select the curve you want to project, and use convert entities. then project the new curve.
RE: Problems with curve projection
Alternatively, you could make two tiny cuts on opposite sides of the cylinder to give it two surfaces, and then you can select the side you want, two one micron diameter circles on the end face with their centres coincident with the surface would do.

Many thanks for your responses,
MechatroPro - Using 'workaround' I want to try and keep the cylindrical surface as an untrimmed surface
'Another workaround' I tried that and the projected curve still projects onto the wrong side of the surface.
SincoTC - You're a star, I used the proper solution and it gives me the control of picking which side that I need. Many thanks
Thank you all for reading my post on a Saturday.
Keep up the good work.
RE: Problems with curve projection
I'm not sure what you are actually trying to achieve, but have you investigated the Weldment function. It looks like it could drastically simplify the model.
