ASME II (material year qualification)

ASME II (material year qualification)

(OP)
Hi,
This is my first involvement in this website. Glad to have this kind of forum.

Just want to ask about material year qualification. Material certificate stated code reference is ASME 2001 but project specification called for ASME 2007. Where should I refer and how?.

* I'm quite new in this ASME thing, but I'm striving to learn it very quickly.
Thanks in advance.

RE: ASME II (material year qualification)

Which Material you are refering to.If the material is Ferrous, Refer ASME Sec II Part A and for non-ferrous refer Part B.

Thanks Athilatt for the reply.
I knew where to refer.

But what I mean is, can we use the material that qualified with ASME 2001 but Project specification is referring to ASME 2007? Is the material still valid to be used?

Thanks again athilatt.

RE: ASME II (material year qualification)

athilatt;
The orgainzation responsible for design and fabrication of the item would have to review the material specification under the 2001 Edition of the ASME B&PV Code and compare with the material specification in the 2007 Edition of the ASME B&PV Code, which the item will be supplied to decide on suitability for use. In some cases, the material specifications do not change as frequently over time.

RE: ASME II (material year qualification)

Agreed metengr. Review the certificate in conformance with 2001 Edition, then co-relate with Edition 2007.Most probably there will not be any major changes.

RE: ASME II (material year qualification)

Go to the first pages of the Code of construction as Sect I oe VIII and sect II-A as applicable, there you will find if your material comply with the new edition of the Code,
if your mat. is there you can use it, if not I think your material 'got old' and is no good for the latest Code.
