Reset first featue in Part navigator to zero

Reset first featue in Part navigator to zero

Reset first featue in Part navigator to zero

Is it possible to reset the first feature in the part navigator to zero. Currently our model template has a datum sys as the only feature in the part navigator. For some reason the feature number for this is now 7. If you delete this datum sys and add a new one in the feature number is now 8. Since this is our model template we would like to reset it to zero otherwise all our future parts will have features that start at 7. See attached picture.

RE: Reset first featue in Part navigator to zero

OK, what you do is open your template part. Go into Modeling and create some sort of feature (something that will show-up in the Part Navigator) like a block or another Datum CSYS, as long as the DO NOT reference the the original Datum CSYS.  Now go to the Part Navigator and simply select and drag the Datum CSYS AFTER the object you just created and let go and the features will be reordered.  Now to get the Datum CSYS back to (0), drag it back to BEFORE the added object.  Now delete the extra object and save your file.  Now your CSYS is item (0).

However, the next object created will NOT be (1), but rather (2), since the object you created solely to reorder the features (you need two to reorder) has already taken the (1) slot.  Sorry, but at least you know now that reordering features will automatically 'reset' the numbers so knowing that should help in the future to get your numbers looking as you would like them to.

Thanks for that John, I've decided to leave the datum sys as number 1 to try to minimise confusion

Which is only fitting since any engineer will tell you that the first number in any series is ONE.  Only mathematicians and computer scientists insist that it's ZERO winky smile
