Modeling threads

Modeling threads

Modeling threads

(OP)
Hi all,
I have to model some threads and I've never done it before.  In my designing and detailing I've always used simplified thread representation (it works for machined metal parts).  This, however, is a plastic molded part and I have to have the threads in the model.
Can someone direct me to a good tutorial for helical sweep protrusions?

I'd sure appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Gilberto

Well, just disregard this question.  I figured it out myself.  Just have to have center-line, a straight line, and a cross section.  Couldn't be easier.

Thanks anyway,
Gil

RE: Modeling threads

Hi again,

Here is a legitimate question about modeling threads.  I have my threads modeled in the part but the ends are squared off.  What is the method for tapering the ends of the threads?
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Gil

RE: Modeling threads

Take the straight line your profile runs on and add a arc at the end to bring the thread out of the part. You should position the profile on the feature such that a dimension to the end of the straight line is to the end of the full thread diameter.

That makes sense.  Thanks,  I'll try it.

Thanks Peter,
The arc at the end of the line works great.
Thanks again,
Gil
