I've constraint to geometries with align and touch in assembly conext. Look at the attached picture. my question is Why is touch not connected to the area of the face of the block, how can I get this result, that the cylinder only touches the face of the block.

RE: asm constraints

You need to either add another constraint or use 'move' to drag the component to required position.

RE: asm constraints

Even with mating conditions it always worked that way. Any flat face is effectively treated as an infinite plane so that in this case I image the side of the cylinder is tangential to that plane and you have degrees of freedom remaining. As Suresh mentions you may either add extra positioning constraints to anchor it to a location on the face or simply use repositioning to drag one or the other of the parts to the desired relationship.

... hudson I agree what U said.
but should touch in meaning of the word work only on the connected faces? Should they rename it better to tangency?

RE: asm constraints

The constraints work in a broad number of ways and touch is just about the broadest generic word that they could have used. The only problem is that it doesn't suggest and intended use and I suppose in any language other than English people might find it hard to form a concept.

The good news on the other hand is that there are not too many different constraints and the manual to help you. Anyone willing to experiment ought to be able to work this out without too many problems.

At present you can also learn by using mating conditions first and then after changing your settings allow the system to automatically convert some of your mated parts. In that way you may have two sets of concepts to compare and that should improve your understanding.

... can anybody give me advice to solve the problem?
the cylinder should not lose the contact to the block face.
