Essential LV board with temporary power supply

Essential LV board with temporary power supply

Essential LV board with temporary power supply

(OP)
Hi, in our plant would like to energise the LV board where the lube oil pump feeder is in, for the fluushing. Lube oil pump is operated via 24dc control supply (from DC UPS system). The DC UPS power is delivered from the same board there the lube oil pump is will be delivered.

We planed to energised the LV board with diesel generator (rated for 400kva/400v. With this supply we will energise the DC UPS first without charging the batteries and using the DC supply for the lube oil pump control.

LV panel has its own incoming breaker which is operating with DC supply and we have to by pass the breaker to energise the LV board.

Is this safe energising the LV board?.

LV panel rated for 400 volt. The diesel generaot has its own breaker and we need to find out the setting for EF and OC of the diesel gen breaker.

One more thing we dont have enough tols for relay testing. Is the existing diesel gen breaker protection is enough?

Please provide your input.

Thanks

RE: Essential LV board with temporary power supply

Hire some professional electrical engineer. I read this twice and still couldn't make out what you are trying to say.

Regardless, and with all due respect, if you can't figure that out, you need professional help.

RE: Essential LV board with temporary power supply

BDF5526,

Before bypassing the breaker need to carry out risk analysis.

Does that breker has any protection on it? If you bypass the incoming breaker is all your protection taken care by upstream breaker (DG Set breaker in your case).

For DG set breaker you need to use conservative setting of both breaker - DG set or breaker you are by passing.

Hope this helps.

RE: Essential LV board with temporary power supply

There are a lot of hazards to both equipment and personnel associated with using breakers to switch between different supplies to a panel. In many jurisdictions this is not allowed by electrical and/or safety codes.
These issues may be avoided by the proper use of a transfer switch.
