temporary bridge

(OP)
Looking to design a temporary bridge to span a 15 ft. hole.  Have a 1" steel plate 4' x 8' and some hp 10x 42 steel piles.  If I use 3 piles per plate do I need to put some cross members in it or will the plate/pile system  carry a point load of 12500 lbs.

RE: temporary bridge

If the plates are welded to the HP sections for compression flange bracing and spaced 32" CC, (8 foot wide bridge), the stress from a 12.5 kip concentrated load at midspan will be less than 5.5 ksi.

RE: temporary bridge

Only if the piles are at least 15 feet long.
