career field transition strategies

career field transition strategies

(OP)
Hello,

I have over 10 years of process engineering experience in electronics and thin film process development and manufacturing.  I have a BS/MS in chemical engineering.  I have been looking to move into a different field within the chemical processing industry (e.g. biomedical devices, pharmaceutical processing, or the defense/aerospace sector).

I was looking for some advice on how to actually get an interview for a position in a different field?  From what I have experienced so far, it seems difficult to get anyone to even consider me.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Scott

RE: career field transition strategies

Right now is rather tough to get an interview even if you have the experience.  My advice would be to put together a functional resume and highlight skills that bridge the two industries.  You obviously have controls experience and troubleshooting experience, accent these.

Also, getting a post-grad certificate in the targeted industry would help.

They can probably see your lack of focus, Medical devices, pharma/biotech, and aero/def are three completely unrelated fields.  Pick one and target it.
