Non-metallic Measuring Tape

Non-metallic Measuring Tape

Non-metallic Measuring Tape

(OP)
The company I work for wants to eliminate non-metallic measureing tapes and I have been asked to look into different options.

I have not found much that would be a suitable replacement for a tape measure, lots of plastic tapes but these won't be very friendly if you have to take measurements alone.

If any body has suggestions they would be appriceated.

Thanks

RE: Non-metallic Measuring Tape

I think you mean to say that you want to elimate non-non-metaliic tape? Or is this like flammable and non inflammable?

Yes, you are right, eliminate metallic measuring tape,

I didn't proof read that one very well, sorry,

So again, suggestions for non-metallic measuring tapes.

Thanks

RE: Non-metallic Measuring Tape

A carpenter's folding measure.  Traditionally wood, now available in plastic.  Standard substation measuring tool.

For longer measurements try a laser tape.

I like hot pink:

Some of the new laser based units are really very good.

They have a laser dot so you know exactly what you are reading (just like a laser pointer), accurate, memory, etc. They cost a few bucks, but they work great. But if this is a 'safety related' expense, maybe you can get one.

And Mr. Beach is correct, they have electrically rated folding carpenter's measures. I don't think I would trust my life to one above 480v, but they are electrically rated...

Good luck, be safe!

Fiberglass tapes are available as "Cloth Tapes" at survey supply shops.

RE: Non-metallic Measuring Tape

For me, laser tapes are well worth the cost in time savings and improved accuracy, not to mention safety. They're great for measuring things you can't reach with a physical tape like equipment elevations (e.g. energized bus in a substation), distances across roadways or between obstructions.
