Press Fit Copper Pipe

Press Fit Copper Pipe

Press Fit Copper Pipe

(OP)
Does anyone know much about press fit copper pipe used in domestic water, hydronic, and gas applications? One example is ProPress. I have seen this stuff and, frankly, I am not impressed. I don't really trust it to hold up over an extended time (30+ yrs). To my knowledge, there is nowhere that this piping system has been installed for more that 5 to 8 years. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge that they can share? Contractors love the stuff because it is so much faster than brazing or soldering, but I am not convinced that the system will last.
Thanks.

RE: Press Fit Copper Pipe

It is fairly new - at least in the US market so there is no field data of how long it lasts.

Fittings only go up to about 2" - although supposedly more are coming.  Valves and other stuff are also coming into the market

We have it in our specs - if the owner wants it - although I tend to shy away from it - basically because of the same reasons - I just dont know that it will last.
