Engineering Field Work - 2009

Engineering Field Work - 2009

Engineering Field Work - 2009

(OP)
Hello everybody.  This isn't really about improving myself and getting ahead at work but I think it's the best forum for my question.

I have an opportunity to spend the next year or so with no commitments to anything at home so I thought I'd make the most of it and expand my field experience.  But, with the economy the way it is today I'm not sure which companies or industries to start looking at.  I'm looking to get pointed in the right direction.

I saw another thread where NETA companies were suggested.  I viewed a few websites of NETA companies but they seem to be looking more for elec engineers than mech engineers.

I'm not clear, you have no job looking for a job, or you're looking to switch jobs?

I'm just looking to switch jobs.  I'm still employed and my job is fairly safe.  But I'm fairly young and starting to get bored.  For personal reasons I'd be able to put in a lot of hours over the next year or so I'd like to make the most of it.  I do about 20% field work now and I'd like to increase that.

I get the feeling that if I stay here for another year I'll be in the exact same spot a year from now.

RE: Engineering Field Work - 2009

Are you up to speed with the economy? I suggest staying where you are and educate yourself as much as possible with what's available to you.
Switch jobs now, you may be in the 'exact same spot' as you are now, or worse.
