heat treatment for wcb?

heat treatment for wcb?

heat treatment for wcb?

(OP)
the heat treatment needed for WCB is not clearly specified in ASTM A-126. Can anyone direct me for the correct adress?

RE: heat treatment for wcb?

WCB grade is specified in ASTM A 216 . The castings are normalised by cooling in still air.Soaking temperature 910-920C,hold 1hour/inch + 1 hour.

thanks for the reply,
Is there any document to refer to on this process?

RE: heat treatment for wcb?

adrenalin;
When you purchase the castings to ASTM A 216, the supplier should have the recommended heat treatment for the castings to achieve the specified minimum tensile properties as required by the A 216 material specification.

The heat treatment practice of the Supplier should be reviewed by the Purchaser. If you don't understand the heat treatment terms like normalizing, annealing, etc, you can Google this information and review it.

metengr,
thanks for your post,
I have lots of stuff collected from google about the topic.
and arunmrau has summarized it very briefly.
still my concern is;
which standard specifies the conditions?
Or the specification is only the mechanical properties in ASTM A216 and the heat treatment is up to the supplier's experience or what?
Thanks!

RE: heat treatment for wcb?

Adrenalin,
Sorry to note that your references are fom Google Search and not ASTM standards or Steel castings Handbook.

My information was more than enough for a person familiar with metallurgy.

hope you start looking into the standards,and all your answers will be available.

If you have any difficulty in interpreting the standard,please come back and I shall be more than willing to help you.

RE: heat treatment for wcb?

Per SA-216, para 5.2, "Castings shall be furnished in the annealed, or normalized, or normalized and tempered condition unless Supplementary Requirement S15 [quench and tempering] is specified"

Per 5.1 "All castings shall receive a heat treatment proper to their design and chemical composition."

If you are the Purchaser, you may specify the appropriate heat treatment for the design.
