Relief to flare network

Relief to flare network

Relief to flare network

(OP)
Hello,

I am involved in a project to mitigate (suspected) safety relief to the flare.

There is a single functioning mass flow meter at the flare stack and an HRVOC analyzer.  These two are the only way for us to isolate the potential sources of a relief.

Does anyone have any experience in this area and what type of devices that can be used to detect sources of relief.

We are going to start testing acoustic sensors which can detect gas flow in pipe, granted the flow is turbulent.  Our plan is to install a sensor on the downstream valve at each safety valve which does not have a rupture disk or ones that are known to have blown rupture disks in the past.

Any other ideas?

If you think I haven't supplied enough information, please let me know.

Can't you use a pressure sensor?

Depending upon the process you may observer refrigeration on the outlet of an offending relief valve.
